We have, since 6th May 2016, taken 2 seats from Independents, 2 from ukip, 4 from Labour and 10(ten) from the Tories.
He said whatever the result he would remain PM, post referendum. He said he wouldn't "do a Blair", but would remain an MP.
So for the 2nd time in less than 3 months Cameron has run away from his promises.
Enoch Powell said that all political careers end in failure. Cameron's certainly has. Tim Farron gives his opinion.
Theresa May's attempt to portray her Government as centrist modernisers has started to unravel as she launches a back to the 1950s plan to create new Grammar schools.
The Lib Dems utterly oppose this reactionary act.
An independent review by the Financial Times journalist Tim Hartford showed that Grammar schools have a harmful effect on educational attainment.
The Government's own social mobility Czar said "more grammar schools would be a disaster".
Sir Michael Wilshaw, the chief inspector of schools, claimed the notion that the poor stand to benefit from the return of grammar schools "strikes me as quite palpable tosh and nonsense".
Lord Willetts, the former Tory cabinet minister who is now chairman of the Resolution Foundation, told the Today programme that the evidence shows poor children get squeezed out by grammars: "They do tend to be captured by the better-informed, more affluent parents."
With the collapse of the Labour Party, we Lib Dems are the only progressive force in British politics, capable of fighting this ring wing Government. Why not join us and help with the fight
David (Mr Brexit) Davies, the Minister for Brexit, has become famous for his waffling speech to Parliament in which it was obvious the Government have no clue what to do.
Mr Brexit has now been given a public dressing down by his boss Theresa May, for exceeding his authority.
The Brexit Farce continues, it would be funny were it not so serious.
More than 2 months after the narrow vote for Brexit, the Government is no closer to defining what it means. Lib Dem leader Tim Farron has already warned that the UK is being made a laughing stock abroad, by the Government's lack of a clear direction for a future outside the EU. The Minister for Brexit David Davies gave a bizarre speech to Parliament yesterday, which was as full of triumphalism for the Brexit "victory" as it was empty on any tangible plan or indeed sense of direction for the future.
This shambolic response to the referendum is all the more surprising because the Ministers who are in charge of delivering "Brexit", are the very same politicians who spent the last 25 and more years campaigning for it. So if even the Brexiteers don't understand what it means, or how it can be achieved, how can they argue that 17 million voted so decisively that no further electoral mandate is required to implement whatever "Brexit" turns out to be!
The Liberal Democrats demand a second referendum on the terms of Brexit. Why not join us and help with the fight?
Lib Dems are calling on all progressives to rally to the defence of the Human Rights act. Despite all the warm words about equality, the May Government is shaping up to be extremely reactionary and the Justice Minister Liz Truss has confirmed she intends to scrap our Human rights protection. Please sign the Petition, calling for the act to be preserved.
Lib Dem spokesman said today " We are delighted to see that the Shepshed Town Councillor accused of racist posts on Facebook has resigned, his attempt to dismiss these posts as an attack on political correctness is frankly pathetic.
The tactics employed in the Brexit campaign has led to an increase in racist abuse and even physical assault, the Lib Dems join with all decent people in denouncing racism and all other forms of bigotry. With the demise of the Labour party, the Lib Dems are the party for all progressives, why not join us?
The editor of this blog was astonished to see A tweet from Heather Wheeler MP in which she congratulated the British Empire on winning most medals at the Rio Olympics.
We Liberal Democrats have always thought the Tories are stuck in the past, but this is worse than we expected.
Does anyone have a spare Atlas or history book they could lend Mrs Wheeler?
Local Lib Dem spokesman said today "By refusing to back article 5 of the NATO Treaty, Corbyn has proved beyond any doubt that he is totally incapable of being Prime Minister. Moderate Labour party members who are horrified at Corbyn's far left policies should join the Lib Dems and help us to deliver our progressive agenda.
The IFS have highlighted how essential access to the EU single market is for the UK economy see article.
Loughborough Liberal Democrats' spokesman said today "its obvious the leave campaigns lied to the British public about the threats of Brexit to our economy. We demand that any change to our economic relationship with the EU is put to another referendum. 52% may have voted against the EU, they did not vote for economic decline"
According to an article in The Guardian Labour's Deputy Leader, Tom Watson, says that Trotskyites are intimidating party members, coercing them into supporting far Left leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Loughborough Liberal Democrat's spokesman said today " It is obvious that New Labour is dead and buried and the Corbyn Labour party is now so far left that it is unelectable. The Liberal Democrats are the only progressive alternative to the Tory party and are now the natural home for moderate Labour members and voters".
Commenting on the decision of the Bank of England to cut interest rates to a record low, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson, Susan Kramer, said:
"This is a necessary move by the Bank of England to help our economy as it reels from the impact of Brexit, but we cannot pretend this isn't a deeply worrying sign.
"The Bank has now used the only major tool left in its shed. Over the coming years we are at risk of having to go into negative territory. We are at the whims of what happens next.
"It is crucial that we do not lock ourselves in to a race to the bottom, with interest rate cuts, devalued Sterling, tax rates that would be better suited to a tax haven and hiring freezes across business - all to offset the costs that will fall on all of us if Brexit negotiations fails to secure access to the single market. An economy based on these measures is not sustainable."
Charnwood Borough Council's Member Conduct Panel has found that Conservative Borough Councillor Jukes was in breach of the Member's Code of Conduct, for remarks he made at Housing Management Advisory Board on 17th February 2016. Council employees Mrs White and Mrs Ansell gave evidence to the panel the minutes report their evidence as being:
Mrs White confirmed she felt the comment made by Councillor Jukes was highly offensive and that her responsibility as an officer was to ensure fair and equal treatment of, and respect for, all residents, and the comment did not show that consideration.
Mrs Ansell confirmed she felt regret at not having challenged Councillor Jukes during the meeting but she felt it was not appropriate to do so with tenants present, but she did believe the comment made by Councillor Jukes had a racist overtone.
Councillor Jukes has been ordered to undertake training in the code of conduct and requested not to attend the Housing Management Advisory Board meetings until the agreed training has been undertaken.
The minutes of the Member Conduct Panel meeting.
Lib Dems regret that Councillor Juke's actions caused distress and offence to these Council employees.
The Loughborough Echo is reporting that an investigation is underway into possible racist comments posted on Facebook by UKIP Shepshed Town Councillor Tim Hicks. Loughborough Echo article.
The Liberal Democrats deplore any action that demeans or abuses any member of our society and expect that, if these accusations are found to be true, then both Shepshed Town council and UKIP will take the strongest possible action.
It has been widely reported that racial abuse has increased dramatically, this increase is being linked to the nature and tone of the Brexit campaign.
